How to know if your windshield needs to be replaced rather just being repaired:

  • If the crack in the windshield runs longer than 14 inches or the chip is larger than 3 inches in diameter.
  • If the chip or crack has penetrated into the inner layer of the glass. If you can feel it from the interior of the car, the windshield is beyond repair.
  • If the chip or crack is near the edge of the windshield or touches the edge of the windshield.

What to expect when replacing your windshield:

  • First, remove all the extra items that are on or attached to your windshield such as rearview mirrors, windshield wipers, pikepass stickers, etc.
  • Once the windshield is bare, using a razor blade you cut the seal around the frame of the windshield to remove the adhesive.  Then remove the windshield from it's frame.
  • Once the windshield is removed, you can remove all the extra sealer from the windshield frame on the car.
  • After removing the extra sealer from the windshield frame, you can begin to prepare the car for the new windshield.  You need to apply a bead of adhesive sealer to the entire windshield frame on the car.
  • Once the windshield frame is prepped, you immediately install the new windshield.
  • Once the windshield is installed, be sure to allow time for the sealer to cure.  You can use tape to hold the windshield in place.
  • After the sealer has cured you can reapply all the windshield fixtures such as rearview mirror, windshield wipers, as well as any stickers.
